A Band of Brothers Walking Tour in Haguenau

A Band of Brothers Walking Tour in Haguenau

When you think of Band of Brothers destinations, names like Bastogne, Aldbourne, or Normandy come quickly to mind. Haguenau isn’t always at the top of the list, but if you do make the trip, the local tourism office has made sure you won’t miss the Easy Company connection.

They’ve created a well-designed walking tour through town, one that blends wartime history, moments from the HBO miniseries, and real Easy Company locations into a rewarding experience.

Walking the Tour

This isn’t a town frozen in time. Haguenau has changed. But as you follow the walking route, you’ll see buildings and spots that appear in the show and feel the weight of the stories behind them.

Highlights of the tour include:

  • The Oriel Window – A distinctive building that appears in the HBO miniseries.
  • Restaurant Au Tigre – Featured in the show as a local landmark.
  • The WWII Memorial – Located near the Moder River, this marks the area where Easy Company conducted their dangerous “last patrol.”
  • The Mansion near the River – Another building that you’ll recognize from the miniseries.
  • The Barracks (now a college dormitory) – These buildings once housed Easy Company during their time in Haguenau.

These stops offer a way to connect the show’s visual storytelling to the real place and people who inspired it.

Holding the Line

In early 1945, Easy Company was assigned to hold the line in Haguenau. The town lay along the Moder River, with German troops just across the water. Constant sniper and artillery fire meant movement by day was nearly impossible.

Despite the conditions, the men made do—setting up gas lamps, finding working stoves, and scrounging what comfort they could. “We got it made,” one soldier joked about their damaged building. It was the first time many of them had real walls around them while on the front line.

You can read these stories in Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose. On this walking tour, you can walk those same streets.

A Quiet Reflection

The Haguenau walking tour doesn’t try to overwhelm. It offers something quieter: a self-guided, meaningful way to stand where Easy Company stood. It’s well-marked, easy to follow, and created with care by the local tourism office.

If you're following Easy Company’s journey through Europe, this tour is a rewarding addition.
